concert pitch digital  in tune with your audiences

content strategy, marketing & digital consultancy

I work with organisations across the arts, media and charity sectors to help them define their digital, content and audience strategies.

Whether it's creating a multi-platform content plan to bring your key messages to life, planning and executing a press campaign, writing and editing copy, or honing your brand and tone of voice across your communications channels, I love bringing out the personality at the heart of every organisation I work with and finding new ways of sharing it with audiences.

what I do:

Understanding your audiences:

I work with you to understand how your audiences behave and what makes them tick, so you know which platforms will deliver your objectives most efficiently.

Objective setting:

I can help you translate your vision, mission and values into measurable KPIs on your digital channels, so you know everything you post has a purpose.

Campaign planning:

Who are you trying to reach? And where might you reach them most efficiently? I can audit your marketing and communications channels to create impactful, creative campaigns, telling your story to the most relevant target market.

Content strategy and brand voice:

You know who you’re talking to, but what are you saying, and how are you saying it? I can help you plan the words on your website, social media posts, or campaign hero copy, to inject a freshness into how you speak to your audiences.

Editorial and social media:

I can plan, write and post your social media content, create blogs for your website, storyboard and plan your video, or write emails to your loyal customers.

about me:

Hello, I'm Mel Spencer.

I'm an editor-turned-marketing professional, with 13 years' experience writing and commissioning content to change the way audiences interact with the arts online. I set up Concert Pitch Digital in 2023 to help arts and cultural organisations better understand their audiences, set meaningful objectives, and create brilliant content with their brand values at its core.

After starting my career as a journalist, working at BBC Music Magazine, I was one of the team of editors hired to rebrand the website for Classic FM, with the aim of transforming it into the ultimate discovery destination for classical music lovers. I quickly realised there was a market for intelligent yet playful content about classical music, and the website and social media audiences ballooned by over 300% in under a year. This kickstarted my career in 'content marketing': using behavioural data to attract new audiences and delight existing fans and followers.

Since then, I've used online content and social media to bring arts and culture to millions on the platforms they use the most. I’ve managed incredible teams and worked to spread a love of the arts through international content campaigns. I have extensive social media strategy and management experience; at the Royal Opera House the channels I managed were the most-engaged social channels in the UK arts sector at the time, and I'm currently working with Apple to create the strategy for Apple Music Classical's social presence.

I'm also the communications and brand trustee at the Cleft Lip and Palate Association, the UK charity supporting people affected by cleft.

When I'm not creating content marketing strategies or keeping my journalism skills ticking over with a bit of freelance writing, you'll find me putting my music degree to good use singing in choirs in and around London, or causing chaos in local coffee shops with my one-year-old son.
